With Christmas approaching, and the British winter taking hold, there’s no better time – and way – to escape it all and enjoy some well-earned rest and relaxation than on a voyage to the Caribbean. Leaving the UK’s gloomy shores behind you’ll soon forget about the cold weather back home as Braemar heads for the sun-kissed islands across the Atlantic. Experiencing the magic of ocean cruising on a smaller cruise ship, and feeling the excitement build in anticipation for your Caribbean adventures, will be something to remember forever. En route, a visit to the Azores and São Miguel, with its volcanic landscapes, craters and colourful lakes, will whet your appetite for the island sights and highlights to come.
Upon arrival in the Caribbean, you’ll call first at St Kitts; perhaps ride the island’s scenic railway – taking in vistas of the ocean surf, mighty cliffs and rolling, lush-green landscapes – for a memorable start to your time in the region. Then it’s on to Guadeloupe, where Braemar will be the only ship in port during your time in Basse-Terre. This allows for a less-crowded discovery of the island’s capital, its thick rainforest and volcanic peaks. Exotic, rainforest-smothered volcanic landscapes await exploration on Dominica too, as well as St Lucia, home to some of the Caribbean’s most majestic wonders – including the peaks of Twin Pitons – and St Vincent. At each island, you’ll discover mile-upon-mile of idyllic beaches ripe for relaxation in the sunshine too; ample places to sample locally-produced food and drink, such as authentic Creole cuisine and Caribbean rum; and historical highlights aplenty.

The bustling, colourful capital of Barbados, Bridgetown, promises exquisite beaches, swanky resort-hotels and exclusive shore-side restaurants. A visit to St. Nicholas, one of the oldest distilleries in the Caribbean, is recommended, as is a meander around the Cheapside Street Market.
Days marked above with an anchor include ports where you will be transferred to shore by landing boat. These ports may be inaccessible for customers with mobility difficulties as a result. Any days not listed will be spent at sea.

Rules may have changed since you last travelled to European Union countries and Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland. The following are useful guidelines which will help you prepare for your next adventure. Note that these new rules do NOT apply when travelling within the United Kingdom or to the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man or the Republic of Ireland. You do require government issued ID when travelling by air though.
It is very important that all passenger names are exactly as per your passport although we do not require middle names.
Your passport must meet two requirements to travel to an EU country and to Switzerland, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein. It must be:
These rules do not apply to travel to Ireland where you can continue to use your passport as long as it’s valid for the length of your stay.
If you’re a tourist, you do not need a visa for short trips to most EU countries, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland. You’ll be able to stay for up to 90 days in any rolling 180-day period. Different rules will apply to Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus and Romania; if you visit these countries, visits to other EU countries will not count towards the 90-day total. Travel to Ireland will not change and stays there will not count towards the 90-day total.
Towards the end of 2022, it is likely that non EU citizens will be required to apply online for an authorisation to visit most European countries. The current details suggest there will be a charge of €7 per person and the authorisation will be valid for all trips made to the EU in a three year period from issue. We will advise you of confirmed details prior to your tour’s departure.
At border control, you may need to show proof of your return journey - your travel documentation issued by us will be sufficient for this. You will also need to use separate lanes from EU, EEA and Swiss citizens if manual checks are required.
You should always get appropriate travel insurance with healthcare cover before you go abroad which covers pre-existing conditions. You should understand the terms and conditions of your travel insurance and be happy with its cover for healthcare and travel disruption. Newmarket sell a comprehensive travel insurance policy. Ask our travel consultants for more information.
You should also apply for a UK Global Heath Insurance Card (GHIC) which lets you get urgent state healthcare in Europe at a reduced cost or sometimes for free. Note GHIC is only valid in EU countries and not in Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland.
