Group B - Belgium, Denmark, Finland, and Russia

It’s game time! At this stage, it really could be anyone’s win. However, we’re sure you have your hunches, and perhaps even some favourites. Which of the Nordic nations will reign victorious in their first game of the tournament, Denmark or Finland? Is Belgium really going to be the best of B?

First, let’s take a look at the countries we have competing in Group B:

  • Belgium
  • Denmark
  • Finland
  • Russia

How do these travel destinations compare?

While Finland and Denmark offer entirely different travel opportunities, the two Nordic countries have plenty in common: high-quality produce, alpine environments, colourful capital cities, and of course, opportunities to relax in saunas. Denmark is a great pick because of its surprising array of beaches, while Finland is known as ‘the land of a thousand lakes’ (it’s home to slightly more, 187,888, specifically!).

Russia might be seen as the wildcard of Group B. The country is huge. For prospective travellers, its 17 million square kilometres might feel somewhat daunting. But with the right tour company (ahem, us) you can experience the best of the nation’s cities, from the electrifying Bolshoi in Moscow to the iconic Admiralty building in St. Petersburg. Belgium might appear to be the more enticing choice for British holidaymakers, not only due to the proximity but because of the abundance of English speakers - if languages aren’t your strong suit! - and the high-quality selection of fine Belgian beers. We’ll cheers to that.

So, the competition is heating up. Where do you most see yourself adventuring to? It’s a tough choice, but only one can reign supreme.

The winner is…

Russia! We’ve got to hand it to Russia, the true underdog of the group. A holiday to Russia is for those seeking something above the usual relaxation and sunshine, it’s for travellers who identify curiosity as one of their biggest traits.

With land reaching from the capitals of Moscow and St Petersburg in the west to the icy Siberian landscape in the east, a holiday to Russia trip is sure to fill you with awe. There’s no denying Russia has a turbulent political past, and a trip will allow you to experience this rich historical aspect by touring the Kremlin’s ancient walled fortresses, the Red Square, and the Museum of History.

Cities and historical attractions aside, there’s a rare natural beauty to Russia. Its countryside offers a contrasting view of quaint towns, pine-carpeted hills, flowing waterfalls, and of course, Lake Baikal, the deepest and oldest freshwater lake in the world.

Suggested tour: Moscow & St Petersburg
