Fly to Italy, and transfer to your hotel, set within the historic Porta Nuova district of Verona.
Today, you’ll explore ‘fair Verona’, the historical backdrop for the tragic tale of ‘Juliet and her Romeo’ and home to the opera season held yearly in its Roman amphitheatre. You’ll be led down the cobblestone lanes by your tour manager before heading into the welcoming warmth of a café on Piazza Bra.
A visit to Lake Garda will be the focus of today, as you join the coach in the company of your tour manager and head to the spa resort of Sirmione, home to healing waters and the fairy-tale Rocca Scaligera castle. You’ll board a boat for a leisurely cruise towards the Grotte di Catullo, then head northwest passing the island of Garda and shoreside resorts of Gardone and Fasano before sailing south back to Sirmione.
After the cruise, you’ll go to Bardolino for further exploration of one of Lake Garda’s most popular resorts and return to your hotel for dinner in the evening.
An unmissable optional excursion involves travelling by train to Venice – one of the world’s most beautiful cities, perhaps even more so during the winter months. Wander through its labyrinth of alleys and waterways, passing spectacular St Mark's Square and Cathedral, the bell tower, the Doge's Palace, the Rialto Bridge, the Palace of Prisons, and the Bridge of Sighs.
It’s New Year’s Eve, and you can opt for a day of relaxing or join an optional excursion to historic Trento. Set in the shadow of Monte Bondone, Trento is home to a variety of atmospheric Christmas Markets – perfect for picking up some gifts to take home.
You’ll return to the hotel to unwind before feasting on a special four-course dinner while enjoying live music, a glass of sparkling wine and a slice of panettone as the clock strikes midnight.
Begin the new year with a lazy day of lounging and perhaps recuperating from the celebrations, either in your hotel or in a snug spot in Verona.
This charming festive break will be concluded with a final dinner at your hotel.
You’ll be transferred back to the airport to check-in for your flight home.

Rules may have changed since you last travelled to European Union countries and Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland. The following are useful guidelines which will help you prepare for your next adventure. Note that these new rules do NOT apply when travelling within the United Kingdom or to the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man or the Republic of Ireland. You do require government issued ID when travelling by air though.
It is very important that all passenger names are exactly as per your passport although we do not require middle names.
Your passport must meet two requirements to travel to an EU country and to Switzerland, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein. It must be:
These rules do not apply to travel to Ireland where you can continue to use your passport as long as it’s valid for the length of your stay.
If you’re a tourist, you do not need a visa for short trips to most EU countries, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland. You’ll be able to stay for up to 90 days in any rolling 180-day period. Different rules will apply to Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus and Romania; if you visit these countries, visits to other EU countries will not count towards the 90-day total. Travel to Ireland will not change and stays there will not count towards the 90-day total.
Towards the end of 2022, it is likely that non EU citizens will be required to apply online for an authorisation to visit most European countries. The current details suggest there will be a charge of €7 per person and the authorisation will be valid for all trips made to the EU in a three year period from issue. We will advise you of confirmed details prior to your tour’s departure.
At border control, you may need to show proof of your return journey - your travel documentation issued by us will be sufficient for this. You will also need to use separate lanes from EU, EEA and Swiss citizens if manual checks are required.
You should always get appropriate travel insurance with healthcare cover before you go abroad which covers pre-existing conditions. You should understand the terms and conditions of your travel insurance and be happy with its cover for healthcare and travel disruption. Newmarket sell a comprehensive travel insurance policy. Ask our travel consultants for more information.
You should also apply for a UK Global Heath Insurance Card (GHIC) which lets you get urgent state healthcare in Europe at a reduced cost or sometimes for free. Note GHIC is only valid in EU countries and not in Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland.
